TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The inauguration ceremony for the fifth democratically-elected president and vice president of Taiwan took place on Monday (May 20).
President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) took their oaths of office, followed by a celebration in front of the Presidential Office, commenced with a performance by the Tri-Service Marching Band. They were joined by outgoing President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), who bid a tearful farewell as her eight-year tenure ended.
Various performance groups took turns on stage, with the Tri-Service Honor Guard salute cannons and national anthem. Lai delivered his inaugural address, followed by an Air Force aerial salute formation and a grand finale featuring the Air Force's Thunder Tigers Aerobatic Team.
