TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A section of three-story-tall scaffolding collapsed, injuring six workers at an Army base in Hualien County, reports said Saturday (May 18).
The workers were pouring concrete for the roof of a ceremonial stand at the base in Hualien City’s Meilun District, per UDN. At 9 a.m., the scaffolding collapsed, burying nine employees.
The rescue team sent six workers to the hospital, with four of them reported seriously injured, though still conscious. The Hualien County Government reported the incident to the Ministry of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
The military said it would investigate the cause of the accident and determine responsibility according to the law and the contract for the project. The Army also demanded the subcontractor implement the necessary risk management measures.
