TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taiwan Advertising Council (AC) proposed five initiatives at its “Fraud Fighting” press conference on Thursday (May 16).
Held at National Taiwan University Alumni Hall, the AC teamed up with 14 organizations and industry experts to promote fraud protection, per Brain. Notable figures like Legislator Wu Chun-cheng (吳春城) and Association of Accredited Advertising Agents of Taipei Chair Vince Cheng (程懷昌) attended the meeting, per TVBS.
In his opening speech, AC Chair Wu Chin-sheng (吳進生) issued five initiatives:
- Avoid secondary harm to victims
- Clearly state rewards for informants
- Annual rewards for informants should not be less than 50%.
- If money obtained through fraud passes through the banking system, based on the responsibilities of the manager, the bank should bear half the responsibility, and the fraud victim should bear the other half.
- Criminal methods, such as houses used as operation centers, should be confiscated.
Ming Chuan University Professor Lin Shao-fan (林少凡) said, “Combating fraud is ,a common global language and preventing fraud is the common voice of the people.”
He said the government can strengthen its anti-fraud strategies through legislation, policy-making, and other means.
Anti-fraud advocate Kao Wei-pang (高為邦) suggested that offering rewards could be beneficial. He recommended that when people receive fraudulent calls, they should not hang up immediately but instead gather evidence of the scam accounts and provide it to the police.
The AC was established in 2003 and a copy of the keynote speech is here.
