TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Internet celebrity Mr. R, surnamed Lin (林), shot money from a cash cannon in Xinyi District on Friday (May 10), causing a crowd to gather.
According to Taipei City Police Department’s Xinyi Precinct, around 11 p.m. on Friday, the Sanchangli Police Station received reports of a crowd gathering at Breeze Nan Shan, per CNA. The station dispatched officers to assess the situation.
Police said they found that Lin called for a crowd to gather on his Instagram, per CNA.
In a Threads video, Lin shoots bills with a “cash canon” or “money gun.” Crowds can be seen swarming the celebrity with outstretched hands, grabbing at money, while some watched the spectacle from the sidelines, per UDN.
Police exercised their authority under the Administrative Execution Act to stop the activity and disperse the crowd to maintain order.
Lin went to the police station around 11 a.m. on Saturday (May 11). In a media interview, he apologized for causing disturbance to the public.
After questioning, Lin was sent to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for investigation on suspicion of breaking public endangerment laws, reported CNA.
