TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – India needs partners for its development, with Taiwan a suitable choice due to similar ideals and interests, Invest India CEO Nivruti Rai said during a visit to Taipei on Wednesday (May 8).
The former CEO of semiconductor maker Intel’s Indian operations described Taiwan as an excellent friend, with bilateral cooperation fitting in with bilateral interests, per CNA. Both countries would benefit from the partnership, she said.
During her four-day visit to Taiwan, Rai emphasized that India had turned into a world-class manufacturing center during the reorganization of global supply chains. Considering the trend of “de-risking," or reducing overreliance on single markets, she hoped Taiwan could export a wider range of products to India, and India could invest more in Taiwan.
India has been one of the 18 nations in South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific targeted by Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy since 2016. Taiwan also recently decided to import workers from India, while firms from the electronics sector have set up manufacturing plants in India.
