TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A female construction worker suffered a work site fall in New Taipei’s Banqiao District on Yongfeng Street on Tuesday morning (May 7).
New Taipei City police said a female worker, surnamed Wang (王), was on the second floor of the construction site. She is believed to have taken a misstep, causing her to fall to the first floor.
When the police arrived at the scene, Wang showed no vital signs and was rushed to Far Eastern Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment. She remains in critical condition in the hospital's intensive care unit, per CNA.
After learning of the accident, the New Taipei Labor Standards Inspection Office issued an immediate work stoppage and initiated an investigation. The office requested the construction company to provide details surrounding the accident.
The labor office also dispatched inspectors to the scene who found Wang was removing protective flooring materials before the fall. Wang fell about three meters because there were no guardrails or other safety measures in place.
The office has asked for a comprehensive review of the work site. This will include a construction plan review, with approval needed before work can resume.
The labor office will assist Wang in applying for occupational disaster relief and implement new measures to ensure a safer workplace environment.
