TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Although highs will reach 30 C in north Taiwan at the start of the week, a northeast monsoon is forecast to bring lows down to 20 C in the north by midweek.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA) on Sunday (May 5) predicted a front will pass through the northern waters of Taiwan on Monday (May 6), bringing localized showers to the north and east, while other areas will see partly cloudy to clear skies. In the afternoon, localized thunderstorms may occur in mountainous regions and areas near them.
Monday highs could range from 30 to 34 C, while mountainous areas near Kaohsiung and Pingtung could exceed 36 C.
The air quality in the Hualien-Taitung is categorized as "good." In the north, Hsinchu-Miaoli, central Taiwan, Yunlin-Chiayi-Nantou, Kaohsiung-Pingtung, Yilan, and Penghu air quality is "moderate." In Matsu and Kinmen it is "unhealthy for sensitive groups."
On Tuesday (May 7), localized showers are expected in the north and east. Other areas will experience cloudy conditions, with localized thunderstorms in the afternoon.
In the evening, a cloud system from southern China will move eastward, and there could be scattered light rain in the central region.
On Wednesday and Thursday (May 8-9), the CWA predicted the northeastern monsoon would strengthen, causing cooling in the north. Low temperatures in the north will be around 20 C, while other areas will also experience cooler mornings and evenings, with lows around 21 to 23 C.
On Wednesday, localized showers are expected in the north and east, while other areas will be mostly cloudy, with localized showers in mountainous regions in the afternoon. On Thursday, scattered light showers are expected in the east and southeast.
Other areas will be partly cloudy to clear, with brief thunderstorms in mountainous regions in the afternoon.
