TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Deputy Economics Minister Chen Chern-chyi (陳正祺) has visited the Netherlands to strengthen supply chain links and deepen bilateral cooperation, reports said Friday (May 4).
During his May 2-3 trip. Chen stopped at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy in The Hague, per CNA. His program also featured discussions with prominent Dutch corporations investing in Taiwan.
In addition, Chen also sat down with Taiwanese investors in the Netherlands to discuss plans to intensify bilateral trade and investment. The deputy minister also addressed a closed-door meeting at The Hague Center for Strategic Studies about Taiwan’s international position.
Chen described Taiwan and the Netherlands as partners with similar values. The new government scheduled to take office on May 20 would continue to develop supply chains related to semiconductors, AI, and cyber security, he said.
Bilateral trade reached US$20.38 billion (NT$658.14 billion) in 2023, its highest level in 10 years, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) said. The European Union member state was Taiwan’s second-largest trading partner on the continent, its first source of foreign investment, and its second investment destination.
