TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A magnitude 4.7 earthquake rocked northeast Taiwan at 12:21 a.m. on Tuesday (April 30), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
No injuries or damage from the quake have been reported as of publication. Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7, which gauges the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.
The quake’s intensity registered a 4 in Hualien County and a 3 in Yilan County and Nantou County, while an intensity level of 2 was recorded in Taichung. Taoyuan, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, New Taipei, Changhua County, Yunlin County, and Taipei all reported an intensity level of 1.
The CWA said its epicenter was 14 km north-northeast of Hualien County Hall, with a shallow focal depth of 15.4 km.
Aftershocks have continued in Hualien since a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck the area on April 3.
