TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — After almost a week since he was reported missing, the body of a doctor of traditional medicine from Hualien, Taiwan was found off the coast of Yilan on Sunday (April 28) morning.
The doctor, surnamed Ku (古), is thought to have accidentally fallen off of a boat off the coast of Yilan. After several days of searching Yilan coasts, Ku’s body was found in waters off Wuyan Cape in Dong’ao, Yilan, reported NOW News.
The Taiwanese Coast Guard recovered the body at 7 a.m. approximately 18 nautical miles south of Guishan Island. The body was taken to Nanfang’ao Fishing Port and his family members were contacted to identify the remains.
Ku went missing on Sunday (April 21) after attending a seminar at Foguang University in Jiaoxi, Yilan. He was reported missing on Monday (April 22), and it was initially believed he was lost on a mountain trail since he told family members that he was planning to hike in the area near the university.
On Friday (April 26), camera footage from Wushi Harbor was discovered in nearby Toucheng, Yilan, which revealed that Ku’s last known movement was boarding a boat for a whale-watching tour. However, when the boat returned from the roughly two-hour tour, Ku was not spotted leaving the ship.
A black backpack with Ku’s name card was found by the staff of the whale-watching tour company, but there was no other sign of Ku. Family members and colleagues said previously that Ku had not shown any abnormal behaviors or indicated that he was experiencing any serious problems.
