TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taipei Fubon Bank celebrated Earth Day (April 22) with activities that encouraged employees to practice sustainability through fun games and educational activities, as well as a used clothing drive.
In response to Earth Day’s theme of "Planet vs Plastics," Taipei Fubon Bank encouraged employees to reduce the use of plastics and their carbon footprint. Company-led activities encouraged employees to use their own shopping bags, recycle old clothing, and make use of public transportation, with participants able to qualify for awards.
Since 2021, Taipei Fubon Bank has launched ESG activities encouraging employee participation, such as the "Sustainability Team Award," which promotes cross-unit team competition and co-work to complete sustainability tasks. In 2023, 4,000 employees participated in the program, undertaking 30,000 green activities that benefited the Earth and promoted sustainability.
For its Green Market, Taipei Fubon Bank invited local farmers and NGOs, to build on an enthusiastic response from last year's activity. At this year’s market, thousands of kilograms of agricultural goods and NGO products were sold.
Also, the number of Green Market events increased from four to eight this year. They were held outside Fubon office buildings across Taiwan.
The Green Market, which debuted at Fubon Financial Center on Monday (April 22), saw the number of stalls double from previous years, with a wider array of products including dairy, handmade snacks, fruits, chicken essence, sugar-free sesame paste, and so on. Each item was either grown or produced locally, echoing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals "SDG 12 Responsible Production and Consumption."
A used clothing campaign was also undertaken, targeting jerseys given to participants at marathons and other road races in Taiwan. Over the years, participants in such activities can accumulate many unwanted jerseys from past races. For this reason, Taipei Fubon Bank set up clothing recycling bins for running jerseys made from 100% polyester fiber.
Taipei Fubon Bank President Tim Kuo (郭倍廷) took the lead in donating many of the jerseys he has accumulated over the years. Several employees responded and additionally donated old running clothing and jerseys that could be broken down and made into new clothes, fulfilling the goals of a circular economy and sustainability.
In recent years, Taipei Fubon Bank has actively promoted ESG, deepening its efforts to provide responsible finance and friendly financial services. The bank is also committed to sustainability through multi-pronged measures such as policy formulation, education, and events.
Through all of these activities, employees can practice sustainability in their daily lives and exert a greater positive influence on their communities.
