TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A warehouse and logistics center for consumer appliance brand TCY (大家源) caught fire in Pingtung County around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday (April 23).
The fire department sent 20 vehicles and 39 firefighters to battle the blaze, which was brought under control at 9:23 p.m. One 65-year-old female employee was rescued by firefighters and in stable condition after being sent to the hospital, per UDN.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The owner of the company, surnamed Chiu (邱), estimated losses from the fire exceeded NT$100 million (US$3 million).
Chiu said the company was fortunate not to experience any casualties. He said a neighbor informed the company about the fire that broke out when no employees were on duty.
The lone employee injured was staying in the warehouse, as her home was located far away.
Pingtung County Fire Bureau Chief Li Bin-cheng (李彬正) said the fire broke out on Wandan Township’s Shengxian Road. Li said the warehouse was engulfed in flames when the fire department arrived. Water lines were deployed as well as aerial drones and fire-fighting robots.
Li said the absence of nearby buildings allowed the fire to be better contained. He estimated that the total area affected by the fire was about 500 square meters.
