TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Hualien County Government announced offices and schools would be closed Tuesday (April 23) due to earthquakes in the area.
The county has been experiencing numerous earthquakes over the past 24 hours, causing two buildings in Hualien to tilt. The Hualien County Government in response canceled classes and work on Tuesday.
According to the Central Weather Administration (CWA), the largest quake on Tuesday was a magnitude 6.3, which struck at 2:32 a.m. The CWA said its epicenter was 17.2 km south-southwest of Hualien County Hall, with a shallow focal depth of 5.5 km.
Aftershocks have continued in Hualien since a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck the area on April 3.
