TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Hakka Affairs Council (HAC) won the 2024 Muse Design Awards’ Gold Award in Interior Design for its Hakka culture exhibition on Monday (April 15).
HAC Cultural Development Center Director-General Ho Chin-liang (何金樑) said the exhibit, called “Biang Jiang: Striving Toward our Beautiful Homeland,” is the first collaboration of its kind, according to a HAC press release.
“It brings together 160 cultural artifacts from public and private museums and private collections in Taiwan, including the National Palace Museum, the National Museum of Taiwan History, and the National Taiwan Museum,” the director-general said.
The exhibition is based on the concept of “Taiwanese Hakka,” conveying the strength and beauty of Hakka culture, per CNA. It connects storylines with a broader narrative, presenting six main themes accompanied by corresponding artifacts to create a cohesive spatial design, Ho explained.
In addition to displaying classic artifacts, the exhibition creates immersive settings such as traditional Hakka kitchens, octagonal doors, and Taiwanese opera theaters, HAC said. At the end of each exhibition, door-shaped installations symbolize the concept of crossing, inviting visitors to experience the cultural heritage of Hakka people over the past 400 years.
The exhibition concludes with literature, photography, and artistic creations, enriching the portrayal of Hakka culture.
HAC commented that winning the internationally acclaimed Muse Award brings much encouragement.
