TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese electric scooter maker Gogoro and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) announced three mobility initiatives on Wednesday (April 17) meant to put more focus on clean energy.
The two companies worked together to introduce 15 battery swapping stations (GoStations) across the nation powered 100% by renewable energy. This is the first time Gogoro’s GoStations have been entirely powered by clean energy. The first wave of clean energy-powered stations is in Taipei and other major cities in Taiwan.
The second initiative involved the two companies working with Hsinchu County Government and Hsinchu City Government to introduce Gogoro’s GoShare scooter sharing service. The service is meant to connect Hsinchu’s transportation network, filling the gap for the first and last kilometers unmet by public transportation.
The third plan will see the companies upgrading existing GoStations and adding new ones in Hsinchu.
“As industry leaders and innovators, we call on all Taiwan businesses and individuals to embrace sustainable thinking and make smart choices with their energy usage. Together we can have a positive impact on Taiwan and future generations,” said Horace Luke (陸學森), founder and CEO of Gogoro.
“We’re happy to work with Gogoro once again to apply our green experience in Taichung to Hsinchu, and promote clean energy adoption through GoShare shared vehicles and green energy battery swapping stations across Taiwan. We hope the public will be able to realize zero-carbon transportation in their commuting and travel, and drive beautiful changes together,” said Lora Ho (何麗梅), senior vice president and ESG Committee chair at TSMC.
Last month, Gogoro was recognized by Fast Company for making its list of the most innovative companies globally. It was ranked No. 37 on Fast Company’s “2024 World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies” list and was ranked No. 1 in the Asia-Pacific region.
