TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Over 40 overseas delegations, including 400 foreign dignitaries, are expected to attend President-elect Lai Ching-te’s (賴清德) inauguration ceremony on May 20, Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) said.
Speaking at the Legislative Yuan on Monday (April 15), Wu said the foreign delegations, including heads of state from eight diplomatic nations, would be coming to Taiwan to celebrate its democratic achievements, per CNA.
Palau President Surangel Whipps, Jr., Tuvalu Prime Minister Feleti Teo, U.S. Representative Andy Barr, who co-chairs the Congressional Taiwan Caucus, and U.S. Representative Mike McCaul, who leads the House Foreign Affairs Committee, have publicly confirmed their attendance.
The official banquet for Lai and Vice President-elect Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) will be held at Formosa Yacht Resort in Tainan City’s Anping District. Lai served as the city’s mayor from 2010-2017.
Foreign guests and friends will be able to sample the rich local culture and traditions of Tainan while experiencing the country’s diversity, the Presidential Office said.
