TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan’s top envoy in the United States, Alexander Yui (俞大㵢), attended a speech by visiting Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio at the invitation of House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Michael McCaul on Thursday (April 11).
The Texas Republican mentioned the invite to Kishida’s speech in Congress on his X feed. He said that he and Yui discussed “additional ways in which the U.S. can support our partner Taiwan and promote greater cooperation and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.”
The envoy thanked McCaul for his long-standing interest in deepening the partnership with Taiwan, per CNA. Yui added he was looking forward to continuing to work with him to promote shared values and common interests in the region.
The Taiwanese diplomat took up his post in Washington, D.C., in December to succeed Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴), who is scheduled to be sworn in as vice president on May 20.
