TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Tainan City will host the official banquet for the inauguration of President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴), the Presidential Office said Friday (April 12).

Not only did Lai serve as mayor of the southern city from 2010 to 2017, but it also celebrates its 400^th anniversary this year. The banquet will take place at the Formosa Yacht Resort in the city’s Anping District, per the Liberty Times.

The choice was decided at a recent transition team meeting chaired by Hsiao and Presidential Secretary-General Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍). They discussed details about the May 20 inauguration ceremony and transition modalities.

“The more local, the more international” the festivities would be, according to the Presidential Office. By organizing the banquet in the historic city, foreign guests and friends could sample the rich local culture and traditions while experiencing the country’s diversity.
