TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Ex-Premier Lin Chuan (林全) and former Xerox Corp. CEO Ursula Burns will stand for seats as independent board directors in a June 4 election, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) said Friday (April 12).
The 10 candidates for the board to be chosen at an annual general meeting included TSMC CEO C.C. Wei (魏哲家), who is expected to take over after Mark Liu’s (劉德音) retirement as chair of the world’s largest contract chipmaker.
National Development Council (NDC) Minister Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫) is already a board member and will be up for re-election. He has been announced as the secretary-general of the new Cabinet to be sworn in on May 20.
In addition to 10 board members, the company also counts seven independent directors, with Lin and Burns among the three new candidates. Before his term as premier from 2016 to 2017, Lin also served as finance minister.
Burns, the first Black woman to lead a Fortune 500 company, still served as the vice chair of the United States Department of Commerce Advisory Council on Supply Chain Competitiveness, TSMC said. The third new candidate for an independent board seat is former oil executive Lynn Elsenhans.
