TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – An orange projectile found on a beach in Taitung County turned out to be a drone used by the Army for target practice, reports said Thursday (April 11).
Around 6 a.m., a visitor drove a car to Nantian Beach in Daren Township where he spotted an orange object, per CNA. He walked down the beach to take a closer look, noticing the metal item was shaped like a missile.
After notifying the local village chief, a military truck arrived and took the object away. The Army later said the item was a drone used for target practice in military exercises and posed no danger to the public.
The drone was manufactured by the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST). On its website, the weapon's manufacturer said the drone could be used by the military to practice a range of air defense tasks, including target tracking and locating.
