TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Ministry of the Interior (MOI) reported that Taiwan’s population was 23,416,375 in March, down 1,678 from the previous month.
The MOI announced the household registration statistics for March on Wednesday (April 10), per CNA. The statistics show that Taiwan has had three consecutive decreases in population.
Regarding newborns, there were 18,270 births in March, equivalent to a crude birth rate of 5.46 per thousand. This is a decrease of 1,679 compared to the same month last year and an increase of 1,164 compared to the previous month.
The number of deaths was 17,566 in March, with a crude death rate of 8.86 per thousand. This is a decrease of 3,006 compared to the same month last year and an increase of 104 compared to the previous month.
Regarding the population changes due to migration, there were 88,045 immigrants in March, an increase of 11,243 compared to the previous month, while there were 83,984 emigrants, an increase of 12,201 compared to the previous month.
After subtracting the number of deaths from the number of births, the natural population increase for Taiwan in March was negative 6,739. If calculated based on the difference between the number of immigrants and emigrants, the social population increase for March was 5,061.
Additionally, the MOI statistics show that in March, there were a total of 12,322 marriages, including 12,019 heterosexual and 303 same-sex marriages, with a crude marriage rate of 6.21 per thousand.
