TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Demolition on a building damaged by last week's earthquake has been temporarily halted to rescue a cat that appears to be stuck in a window.
A powerful magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck Hualien on April 3, causing the “Uranus Building” on Xuanyuan Road in Hualien City to tilt precariously. After victims trapped inside were rescued, work started on demolishing the building on April 5.
Due to the event's suddenness, many residents did not have time to evacuate their pets. On Tuesday (April 9), halfway through the operation, a cat with an orange tabby coat was seen stuck between the burglar bars of a window on the seventh floor, reported Liberty Times.
Construction was halted so authorities could rescue the cat. Live cameras from several media outlets captured the trapped cat, seen stuck but still able to move its body slightly.
According to a report from ETtoday, the cat is named "Orange" and is owned by a woman surnamed Yu (余), a resident on the 8th floor of the Uranus Building. Yu reportedly became extremely emotional upon seeing her beloved cat.
