The Centers for Disease Control said Tuesday the norovirus has been detected in some of the samples from patients, but whether the virus caused the illnesses will require further investigation, per CNA.
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Two food safety clinics have been set up in Taipei after over 80 people who dined at two restaurants owned by Wowprime Corp. have been treated for suspected food poisoning.
Of the 82 customers who sought medical treatment, 32 ate at Truewow and 50 dined at Xiang La Spicy Hot Pot, said the Taipei City Government Department of Health on Tuesday (April 9). Considering the continued increase in the number of affected individuals, two special clinics dedicated to food safety have been established by Taipei City Hospital to treat patients.
On April 5, the health department received notifications from hospitals that suspected food poisoning incidents had occurred at the Ximen branches of the Truewow Korean restaurant and Xiang La Spicy Hot Pot. It sent personnel to conduct inspections and collect environmental samples for testing, and the two eateries were ordered to close on April 6.
According to the health department, as of 8 p.m. Monday (April 8), 82 customers had reported symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea after dining. Most of them have been discharged from the hospital to recuperate at home.
The "Special Clinic for Food Safety" opened by Taipei City Hospital's Renai and Zhongxing branches will be open from Tuesday until April 15. It urged consumers who dined at the two restaurants on April 2-5 and who are experiencing gastrointestinal discomfort to register online to schedule an appointment.
