TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kuomintang (KMT) Vice Chairman Andrew Hsia (夏立言) arrived in Washington, D.C. on Sunday morning (April 7).
Hsia was greeted by KMT Representative to the U.S. Chin Jih-hsin (秦日新) and stopped by the KMT representative office for a briefing, per CNA. He emphasized the party’s commitment to engaging with sectors in the U.S. and to adhere to the diplomatic principles of being pro-America, friendly to Japan, and engaging with China.
He also met with KMT Director of International Affairs Alexander Huang (黃介正). Over the next six days, Hsia is to hold talks with U.S. think tanks, members of Congress, and U.S. government officials. The vice chairman will also participate in the U.S.-Japan-Taiwan Track 2 trilateral tabletop exercises organized by the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
In the evening, Hsia attended a banquet hosted by the overseas Taiwanese community in Washington, D.C. He thanked them for their long-standing support.
Community representatives expressed their appreciation for KMT Chair Eric Chu (朱立倫)’s recent reforms within the party. They pledged to continue supporting the party as it seeks to attract more support from overseas and younger Taiwanese.
KMT spokesperson Yang Chih-yu (楊智伃) previously said Hsia's trip is the first since the 2024 presidential and legislative elections. The special invitation extended to Hsia indicated the friendly and stable relationship between the KMT and the U.S. since the establishment of the party’s representative office in Washington in 2022, Yang said.
Hsia will return to Taiwan on April 15.
