TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan representative to the U.S. Alexander Yui (俞大㵢) highlighted Massachusetts’ technology prowess during a visit to its state house on Thursday (April 4).
Taiwan is Massachusetts’ eighth-largest trading partner, Yui said. As artificial intelligence is set to become the next technological frontier, Massachusetts is sure to “be an integral part of the new revolution,” he said, per WWLP.
The representative said Massachusetts and Taiwan could cooperate to set up a semiconductor manufacturing plant. "The most important part is the brainpower and the human labor force, and you have it all here in Massachusetts,” he said.
Taiwanese companies such as Delta Electronics (Americas) Ltd., Axiom Technology, Inc. USA, Segue Manufacturing Services, LLC, MediaTek USA Inc., and Wpg Americas Inc. have set up shop in Massachusetts in the electric system, semiconductor, and computer equipment industries.
Yui held a private meeting with Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey at the state house. He also visited Harvard University, where he participated in the Harvard Kennedy School Senior Executive Program as a junior diplomat in 2002, according to the Taipei Economic Cultural Office in Boston.
He met with Harvard Kennedy School Dean Douglas Elmendorf and gave a talk on Taiwan-U.S. relations to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act.
