TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The second son of Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn visited Taiwan last week to gain a better understanding of the country’s economic and technological development, reports said Tuesday (April 2).
Vacharaesorn Vivacharawongse, 42, is a New York-based lawyer working on energy issues, according to the Bangkok Post. He has spent most of the past 30 years living in the United States as he, his three brothers, and his mother were banished from Thailand, leaving them without royal titles.
During his March 27-30 stay, he visited the Taiwan Space Agency (TASA), the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), CECI Engineering Consultants Inc., and AcBel Polytech Inc., CNA reported.
During his meetings, he discussed semiconductors, supply chain issues, and labor shortages. Harbor plans, EV development, and cooperation between Taiwan and Thailand on satellite research also formed part of his conversations.
He was reportedly eager to promote more cooperation between the two countries and to encourage bilateral investment. Taiwan has listed Thailand as one of its “New Southbound Policy” target countries since 2016.
