TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration issued a severe thunderstorm and heavy rain warning for the cities of Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, and Taoyuan on Sunday afternoon (March 31).
The warning noted that the expected weather is often accompanied by thunder, lightning, severe rainfall, strong winds, and possibly hail. The severe thunderstorm warning expired at 5 p.m., though the heavy rain warning continues through Sunday evening, and also warns of the possibility of continued lightning strikes and strong winds.
A heavy rain warning indicates that rainfall within 24 hours is expected to exceed 80 milliliters, of 40 milliliters within one hour.
The administration also issued flash flood warnings for New Taipei City and advised the public to stay away from waterways until 5:30 p.m.
