TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Former President Ma Ying-jeou’s itinerary for his 11-day trip to China has been confirmed.
Ma will lead a group of 20 young Taiwanese to visit Guangdong Province, Shaanxi Province, and Beijing, Ma Ying-jeou Culture and Education Foundation Director Hsiao Hsu-tsen (蕭旭岑) said on Sunday (March 31).
The delegation will depart for Guangdong on April 1. Over their three-day stay, the group will visit Sun Yat-sen University for exchanges with students and faculty.
The group members will also pay respects at the Huanghuagang Martyrs Cemetery and visit Dr. Sun Yat-sen's (孫中山) former residence and the former site of the Whampoa Military Academy. Additionally, they will visit the offices of DJI, Tencent, and BYD, before heading to Shaanxi.
On April 4, the group will participate in the Qingming Festival Memorial Ceremony for the Yellow Emperor and visit Emperor Qinshihuang's mausoleum, Famen Temple, Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, Shaanxi History Museum, and the Xi’an Museum. The group will also stop by Yangling Agricultural Hi-tech Industries Demonstration Zone and LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., as well as Chinese military general Ma Yuan’s (馬援) shrine and tomb.
The delegation is slated to arrive in Beijing on April 7, where they will visit Peking University, the Badaling section of the Great Wall, Forbidden City, China Academy of Space Technology, Marco Polo Bridge, and Museum of the War of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
Ma may also meet with Xi Jinping (習近平), whom he previously met in 2015.
On April 11, the group will return to Taiwan.
Hsiao said the main purpose of this trip is to continue youth exchanges between the two sides of the strait and ease cross-strait hostility. This will be Ma's second trip to China, following one in March 2023.
