TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Chair Laura Rosenberger may visit Taiwan next week to see government officials.
Rosenberger is reported to be coming to Taiwan on April 2 to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德), and Vice President-elect Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴), Liberty Times reported. The chair will likely also meet with Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) and high-level officials from the government and various political parties.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it welcomed any visit by American officials, adding that they demonstrate U.S. support for Taiwan.
This would be Rosenberger's second visit to Taiwan this year. She accompanied a U.S. delegation in January.
MOFA said it had no further information to provide to the media as yet, while AIT also said it had no information or itinerary to share.
The report comes as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Japan Raymond Greene is rumored to take over as AIT director. Greene previously served as AIT deputy director from 2018-2021.
