TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — ASUS must pay US$18 million (NT$577 million) to ACQIS after years of litigation.
The U.S. District Court of the Western District of Texas ruled on Friday (March 22) that Asus infringed upon two of ACQIS’ patents, per CNA. According to a legal document, the lawsuit began in October 2020.
U.S. tech company ACQIS claimed that ASUS infringed upon its patents, specifically its data security technology. The document also said that ASUS continues to infringe upon ACQIS’ patents by selling products containing ACQIS technology in the U.S.
ASUS said Tuesday (March 26) that it had consulted legal and patent experts and would make legal appeals to protect the company's rights and interests.
ASUS has previously been involved in several legal battles. Lenovo sued ASUS in November over patent infringements, including its wireless communications and touchpad technology, per Reuters.
Established in 1989, the Taiwanese tech company is the fifth-largest computer vendor in the world in terms of unit sales. The company produces a wide range of tech products including desktops, phones, and routers.
