TAIPEI (Taiwan News) - Taiwanese will have 115 days off next year, including seven consecutive days for the Lunar New Year, and four days each for the Dragon Boat Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the Qingming Festival, but there will also be makeup working days, the government announced Wednesday (May 1).
Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) approved the list of days off on Tuesday, the Central News Agency quoted Cabinet spokeswoman Kolas Yotaka as saying. Earlier, he had said that beginning in 2020, the Lunar New Year holiday would never be shorter than seven days, in order to ease the traffic burden and make family visits less of a hassle.
The most important Taiwanese holiday of the year will last from January 23 through 29, though one day will have to be made up by working on one Saturday. The exact date for that day still has to be determined, according to CNA.
A similar situation will occur for the Dragon Boat Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival, which each fall on a Thursday in 2020. The Dragon Boat Festival holiday has been set for June 25-28 with a makeup working day on June 20, and the Mid-Autumn Festival for October 1-4 with the working day on September 26.
The Qingming Tomb-Sweeping holiday will also last four days, April 2-5, but no makeup day will be necessary.
There will be two three-day holidays, for 228 Peace Memorial Day from February 28 through March 1, and for Double Ten National Day on October 9-11.
The overall number of days off in 2020, 115, will actually be the same as this year, officials said.
