TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- After apparently being dumped there by an intoxicated and disgruntled driver, three delivery trucks full of ice were found floating in a harbor in northern Taiwan's Keelung City this morning.
While apparently under the influence of alcohol, a 55-year-old truck driver surnamed Lo (羅) drove three trucks weighing 3.5 tons each from an ice factory to the Badouzi Fishing Port in Keelung's Zhongzheng District early this morning, reported Liberty Times. At 5:30 a.m., Lo backed each of the three trucks to the edge of the pier, put them in reverse, and watched as they crashed into the harbor.
When Coast Guard officials arrived on the scene, Lo said there was no fuel left in the tanks and no fuel had spilled in the harbor. He said that he was willing to take full responsibility for salvaging the trucks from the sea.

After the incident, Lo stayed at the scene and called for a crane to hoist the trucks out from the water. Police noticed the smell of alcohol on Lo's breath and made him submit to a breathalyzer test.
The test revealed that Lo's blood alcohol content was 0.15 mg/l, right at the legal threshold. Lo argued that he did not start drinking until after he steered the three trucks into the harbor, according to the report.
Police were unable to verify his story and took him into custody for committing an Offense Against Public Safety (違反公共罪).

At 5:30 a.m. this morning, Coast Guard officers on duty at the Badouzi Security Station found the three trucks floating in the port. After they viewed surveillance monitors, they discovered that Lo had put each one in reverse, stepped out of the cab, and watched each truck fall into the sea.
Lo told police that he sells ice cubes to fishermen at Badouzi Fishing Port through personal connections. Lo recently found that the ice packages from the producer were each actually two pounds underweight
The fishermen started to question his integrity. After officials at the ice plant denied his accusations, Lo angrily drove the three trucks to Badouzi Fishing port and dumped them into the harbor out of protest, according to the report.

Port officials said that the trucks, which floated because they were filled with ice, affected access to the waterway and polluted the harbor area, it constituted a violation of the Fishing Port Act (漁港法). While deliberately driving an ice factory truck into the sea is an act of Malicious Mischief (毀損罪).
Lo contacted a tow service and by 8:30 a.m. this morning, crews began plucking out the trucks one at a time from the water.
