New blue Taiwan National Police uniforms replace old gray garb worn for over 30 years

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- Officers of Taiwan's National Police Agency are wearing new and improved blue uniforms starting from today, marking a change from the old gray garb worn for over 30 years.

In addition to sporting a new dark blue color, changes have been made to improve durability and comfort. The shirt pockets buttons have been replaced with velcro for quicker access.

The caps that come with the new uniforms are made from a breathable mesh material to reduce sweat during the long, hot Taiwanese summer. The back shoulders of the uniform have accordion folds for extra flexibility, while more pockets have been added throughout the uniform, including a concealed slot for a body camera.

Two layers of fabric have been added to the knees to make the pants more durable.

The old police uniforms, notable for their dull gray shirts, have been in service since 1987. The National Police have been exploring new uniform options since 2016.

After a vote on three different uniform design options last year, the new dark blue, tactical uniforms proved to be the most popular among officers and the public.
