TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- After fighting off an attempt by a stranger to rape her, a woman found herself being evicted because her landlord allegedly blamed her for causing "trouble" because she is "too beautiful," according to local media reports.

At 1 a.m. on Feb. 18, after a night of drinking wine with friends, a 40-year-old woman surnamed Lee (李) was wearing a miniskirt when she returned to her apartment complex in Taichung City's South District. As she entered the elevator, a 47-year-old man surnamed Chang (張), who she noticed was behaving suspiciously, followed her inside.

When she arrived on the floor where her apartment was located, she demanded that the man leave the scene. Instead of complying with her demand, Chang grabbed her hair and put her in a bear hug.

Chang then wrestled Lee to the ground and tried to strip her clothes off and rape her. After struggling for 10 minutes, Chang finally relented the assault out of apparent exhaustion and left the scene.

Lee immediately called the police and as he was bleeding and looked suspicious, the security guard blocked Chang from leaving the building. Police then arrived on the scene and took Chang into custody.

A preliminary police investigation found that Chang had a mental disorder and when they questioned him about the alleged sexual assault, he said he "did not know and wasn't sure." He was then transferred to the Taichung District Prosecutor's Office and was charged with sexual assault.

Lee told Apple Daily that after the incident, her female landlord came by her apartment to ask her about the incident. Incredibly, the landlord then seemingly blamed Lee for the assault by saying, "Being too beautiful can also cause trouble." Lee said it was not very long before she received a call from her landlord informing her that her rental contract was being canceled and she had two weeks to exit the apartment.

Lee said the landlord only returned her two months deposit that she had previously paid and gave her no compensation. Lee found the landlord's actions bizarre because she was clearly the victim, but the landlord implied that because she had "gotten all dolled up," she was the "troublemaker," who had brought this "storm" on herself.

Lee said that she is currently seeking justice through the legal system and hopes that others will not suffer as she did.
