TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Taiwanese Coast Guard in Penghu seized a Chinese fishing boat this morning that crossed into Taiwan’s territorial waters, and which refused to obey commands of coast guard officers.
According to reports the Taiwanese Coast Guard was forced to fire a single warning shot towards the Min Jin Yu No. 5728 (閩晉漁) before they were able to commandeer the intruding vessel.
The vessel was confronted at around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, 23.7 nautical miles northwest of Huayu Island, Penghu County’s westernmost island, reports CNA.
Onboard the vessel, 15 crew members were found along with 6,000 kg fish and crab, along with almost four kilograms of pork meat. The Coast Guard has impounded the ship at Magong Harbor in Penghu.
This is the second Chinese fishing vessel caught this year, with the Yong Xing No. 8 (永興8號), seized in Penghu waters on Jan. 12.
