TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- A man angry to find his wife with her lover inside a car, clung to the hood for 8 kilometers, before being flung from the vehicle in Taoyuan, Taiwan on Feb. 2, and succumbing to his wounds four days later.
On Feb. 2, a 47-year-old man surnamed Hsieh (謝) found his 42-year-old wife of 20 years and mother of his three children surnamed Chang (張) in a car with another man. Furious and demanding that his wife get out of the car, he jumped on the hood of the vehicle, only to have the driver speed off, leaving Hsieh clinging for his life, reported UDN.
According to local media reports, Chang had been involved in a love affair for a year. When Hsieh found out, the couple became engaged in a heated argument, and he allegedly beat her during a fit of blind rage, leading to a court battle over domestic violence.
Chang moved out of their home because of the domestic violence incident. However, after Hsieh promised to never hit Chang again, the two renewed their relationship.
Unexpectedly, Chang had another affair and left without saying good bye in late January, reported Apple Daily. Police had recently notified Hsieh that his wife was living with a man surnamed Pan (潘), who was considered a risk to public safety, according to Liberty Times.
Hsieh asked his friends to help him find his wife, and while being driven by a friend in Guanyin District, he spotted Chang and Pan sitting in the backseat of a Mercedes-Benz driven by a man surnamed Tsai (蔡). When the car reached a stoplight, Chang took advantage of the opportunity to hop out of the car and try to convince his wife to get out of the Mercedes and go home with him.
However, Chang ignored his pleas. Frustrated and determined to get her attention, Hsieh leaped on hood of the car and continued to beg her to come back to him.
Instead of remaining at the stop light, Tsai floored the accelerator pedal and the car sped off, with Hsieh clinging for his life on the hood. Hsieh's friend tried keep up with the car, but soon lost sight of it as it was roaring down the road at too fast of a pace.
Motorists who witnessed the dramatic scene honked and tried to persuade Tsai to pull over, but he was unfazed and continued to race down the road. After holding on for dear life for nearly eight kilometers, Hsieh finally lost his grip and fell from the car, reported UDN.
At 11:00 p.m, Police received a report of person having fallen at the side of the road at the intersection of Binhai Road and Zhongshan Road in Guanyin District, according to Apple Daily. Police then dispatched an ambulance to the scene and paramedics found that Hsieh had no injuries to his limbs but had suffered severe head trauma and rushed him to a hospital.
Finding his wounds suspicious, police attempted to contact Chang and Tsai to submit to questioning. Chang came forward and said that her husband had taken a hard fall off the hood of the car, but out of fear of being implicated, Pan fled the scene, according to UDN.
After undergoing four days of treatment in the hospital, Hsieh succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead on Feb. 6. Chang and Tsai have been sent to the Prosecutor's Office on charges of negligent homicide (過失致死罪).
