TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — 12 travelers recently met with unfortunate circumstances were rescued by the kindness of local police in Hualien County (花蓮縣).
The troupe had come from the Philippines and planned a cycling trip around Taiwan. What they did not plan for was being left with nowhere to stay and nothing to eat towards the middle of their vacation.
Arriving in Hualien on the second day of the Lunar New Year, the travelers discovered all hotels and guesthouses in the area were booked-up, CNA reports.
Luckily, local police were able to help resolve their problem.
Hualien County Police Bureau said Wednesday the troupe arrived without thinking to book accommodation in advance—always a necessity over the busy New Year period. After searching for some time to no avail, they trundled tired and hungry to the police bureau asking for help.
After hearing their story, the officers on duty immediately offered their assistance.
In addition to finding the travelers a place to stay, they gave them lunchboxes to eat that had been specially prepared for the bureau staff. The riders were touched, and after returning to the Philippines, asked a Taiwanese friend to help express their appreciation online.
The friend helped communicate their gratitude via a Facebook post (pictured below), which reads:
Some Filipino friends and colleagues took a New Year cycling trip around Taiwan and arrived in Hualien on the second day of the holidays, but couldn’t find a place to stay. Luckily, the man and women in the picture offered to help, and not only did they find them somewhere to sleep, but also guided them to their planned destination and offered them all lunchboxes to eat!
