TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Following the last round of trade negotiations between China and the U.S., which were held in Washington this past week, there was speculation that Trump might arrange a meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on his upcoming trip to Asia for a second North Korean Summit.

According to a report from the South China Morning Post, the potential meeting between the leaders may also have a potential date and location. A source close to the negotiations reportedly told the news outlet that Trump and Xi are considering a summit meeting in Da Nang, Vietnam Feb. 27-28, although the date has not yet been confirmed by any government source.

There has also been speculation that Vietnam was a likely candidate for a second summit between Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un. The official announcement of the date and location for the North Korean Summit is expected sometime this coming week, according to reports.



The date of Feb. 27-28 would also be the last few days of the 90 day trade war “armistice,” which Trump and Xi agreed to at their last face-to-face meeting in Argentina at the G20 Summit, which took place Nov. 30 – Dec. 1, 2018.

According to the South China Morning Post, the Chinese side is optimistic about a “road map” for future talks. According to observers, the likely aim of Xi Jinping for a potential February meeting with Trump would be to secure an extension of the “armistice” to prevent the introduction of a new raft of tariffs targeting an estimated US$ 265 billion dollars of Chinese imports to the U.S.
