Ali Williams out for season

All Blacks lock Ali Williams will miss all of New Zealand's 2009 test matches after opting Wednesday to undergo surgery for an Achilles tendon injury.
New Zealand team doctor Deb Robinson confirmed Williams' decision, saying an operation would likely sideline Williams for up to four months, ruling him out of this month's Tri-Nations series and the All Blacks' end of year tour to Europe.
"Ali saw a specialist in Auckland yesterday (Tuesday) and it was confirmed that he would require surgery on his right Achilles. He will be out of rugby for up to four months," Robinson said.
"At the same time, the surgeon will take the opportunity to assess Ali's left shoulder which has some minor instability and has been troubling him for some time."
Williams was due to play Italy last weekend but withdrew from that match when he reinjured his ankle during a training run. He said he was disappointed but philosophical about the injury.
"It's just a case of getting on with the surgery and then the rehab so I can then get back to playing some footy," he said.
