Mexico: 2 children caught stealing sea turtle eggs

Mexican environmental officials have detained two teenagers stealing protected sea turtle eggs from a beach near the Pacific resort city of Acapulco.
Guerrero state ecological police say they detained 15-year-old Gerardo Lopez and 12-year-old Cesar Lopez Tuesday morning as they removed 180 of the rare eggs from a beach 93 miles (150 kilometers) south of Acapulco.
Officials say the two minors are in federal custody in Acapulco and may be put into a home for juvenile offenders since they are too young to prosecute.
Theft of sea turtle eggs is a major problem in Guerrero where restaurants advertise the black-market dish as an aphrodisiac.
Harming sea turtles is a crime punishable up to 9 years in prison.
