Hamas, Fatah aim for unity accord at end of July

Palestinians say the rival Hamas and Fatah movements have ended their latest round of reconciliation talks in Cairo without reaching a deal.
Azzam al-Ahmed of Fatah says the groups now hope to sign an accord by July 28. He says Egypt, which has been mediating the discussions, lifted its previous deadline of July 7.
Hamas activist Izzat Rashaq says the two sides will resume discussions in Cairo on July 25.
Al-Ahmed said Tuesday that only details need to be worked out.
Rashaq said the two sides need time to release political prisoners.
The militant Islamic Hamas overran Gaza in 2007, leaving the Palestinians with two governments _ a Hamas regime in Gaza and Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah ruling the West Bank.
