Iraqi police and hospital officials say a car bomb has exploded in the northern city of Kirkuk, killing at least 24 people and wounding dozens.
Police say the car blew up at a market in Kirkuk's Shurja area as people shopped just before sunset.
Tuesday's bombing comes as Iraqis celebrate what the government is calling National Sovereignty Day to mark the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Iraqi cities.
The U.S. military also says four U.S. soldiers were killed in combat in Baghdad on Monday.
Police Brig. Gen. Sarhat Qadir and Dr. Sabah Zangana, the director of Kirkuk's Health Directorate, also said at least 40 people were wounded in the attack.
