Stocks open flat ahead of consumer confidence data

Stocks are holding steady in early trading as investors look to seal the market's best quarterly performance in more than a decade.
After a relatively quiet day of trading a day earlier, investors are hungry for more signs that the economy is actually growing.
A key housing index showing home price declines are moderating had little impact on the market.
Later Tuesday morning, investors will get a reading on consumer confidence from the Conference Board. The June reading is expected to show that Americans' mood is little changed.
In the first few minutes of trading, the Dow Jones industrials are up 8 to 8,537. The Standard & Poor's 500 index is up less than a point to 927, and the Nasdaq composite index is up 5 to 1,849.
