EU to probe safety of Yemenia Airways

The European Union's transport chief says European airline safety specialists will conduct a probe into whether Yemenia Air should be added to the EU's safety blacklist.
A Yemenia Air passenger jet with 153 people on board crashed into the Indian Ocean early Tuesday as it tried to land during heavy wind on the island nation of Comoros.
Transport Commissioner Antonio Tajani says the airline has so far met EU safety checks and was not on the bloc's blacklist. But he says safety experts will contact the Yemen airline "to see what happened and to verify the level of safety" of its operations in Europe.
France's transport minister says French aviation inspectors found a "number of faults" during a 2007 inspection of the aging plane that crashed Tuesday.
