Brake failure cause of deadly China train accident

Brake failure was the cause of a passenger train collision that killed three people and injured 63 others in southern China, state media reported Tuesday.
The pre-dawn crash Monday occurred in Hunan province when the brakes failed on a train going from the provincial capital Changsha to the southern city of Shenzhen.
The train then jumped the tracks and collided with another Shenzhen-bound train, the official Xinhua News Agency cited Sun Jing, deputy general manager of the Guangzhou Railway Group, as saying.
Phone calls to the Guangzhou Railway Group rang unanswered Tuesday.
State-run CCTV said on its noon broadcast that two passengers remained in intensive care in a hospital, while 42 others were being treated for minor injuries.
A woman and her son were killed when a derailed train car slammed into their home. Xinhua did not say how the third person died.
Last year, 72 people were killed and hundreds injured when a high-speed passenger train jumped its tracks and slammed into another in eastern Shandong province.
