New NATO flotilla takes over anti-piracy patrols

NATO says it has replaced a flotilla of warships patrolling the waters off Somalia in a crackdown on piracy.
The alliance says the new task force consists of five ships from Britain, the U.S., Greece, Italy and Turkey.
It replaces a NATO flotilla that has guarded merchant ships against pirates in the past three months in one of the world's busiest shipping lanes.
The new squadron will continue the operation indefinitely. It will be commanded by a British officer, Commodore Steve Chick.
Last month, NATO defense ministers meeting in Brussels decided to maintain a counter-piracy squadron off the Horn of Africa, where international patrols have been key to reducing the number of successful attacks by Somali pirates.
