FIFA announced on Monday that one of four German journalists injured in a car crash on their way to a Confederations Cup semifinal match has died.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter sent his condolences to the family of freelance journalist Wolfgang Jost, who was in a car that went out of control on a road to Bloemfontein June 24, when the four men were headed for the semifinal between the United States and Spain. Police said no other car was involved.
"It's a very sad situation but we are not the masters of our destiny," Blatter told reporters at the post-Confederations Cup media conference at Ellis Park. Blatter and the media stood for a minute's silence as a mark of respect to Jost.
