Euro lower against dollar

The euro traded lower against the dollar on Monday, slipping back to the $1.40 mark at the start of a week that features closely watched U.S. employment figures and the European Central Bank's monthly policy meeting.
The 16-nation euro bought $1.4007 in morning European trading, down from $1.4077 in New York late Friday.
The British pound declined to $1.6454 from $1.6531, while the dollar rose to 95.44 Japanese yen from 95.18 yen.
The dollar lost ground against all three currencies on Friday as U.S. data suggested that consumers are being extremely careful with their money.
U.S. data this week should offer more indicators of where the economy is headed, notably the monthly nonfarm payrolls report that is due on Thursday.
Also on Thursday, the ECB's governing council meets to consider its stance on interest rates.
