US envoys head to Syria

The State Department says two American envoys are on their way to Syria as the Obama administration continues to explore ways to improve relations with a country deemed a state sponsor of terrorism.
Spokesman Robert Wood says the top U.S. diplomat for the Middle East Jeffrey Feltman and National Security Council member Daniel Shapiro are traveling to Damascus on Tuesday for their second visit to Syria since March. The trip was announced as Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad arrived in Syria to meet with leaders of 10 hardline Palestinian groups.
Iran and Syria are strong supporters of militant Islamic groups in the region, including Hamas and Lebanon's Hezbollah. The United States regards those groups as terrorist organizations.
