Armstrong to ride as support for Leipheimer

Lance Armstrong has committed himself to riding in support of teammate Levi Leipheimer in the Giro d'Italia.
The seven-time Tour de France champion is in Italy to compete in his first Giro, which begins Saturday in Venice.
Armstrong says he is behind schedule after breaking his collarbone in a crash in March and is not in a position to contend for victory in Italy.
Instead, he plans to be a support rider for Astana teammate Leipheimer.
Armstrong already helped Leipheimer win the Tour of Gila in New Mexico last week, and the Tour of California at the beginning of the season.
Armstrong spoke Tuesday after meeting with Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini to seek his support in the fight against cancer.
